Catfish Trailer: See This Movie, But Don't Watch This Trailer

Catfish was one of the best movies I saw at Sundance this year, and one of the best parts about it was walking into the screening knowing literally nothing about it beyond the title. It wasn't just me-- everyone who saw the film at Sundance would gush about how much they loved it then shut up for fear of revealing too much, and when Brett Ratner and Rogue Pictures picked up the film for distribution in February, everyone who had seen it wondered how on earth they would sell a film that was best seen knowing as little as possible.

Now that the first trailer for the film has debuted at Apple.com, we have our answer-- they're leaning hard on the mystery that got us all so fascinated because we didn't see it coming. From the apparent tagline-- "Don't Let Anyone Tell You What It Is"-- to the critic's quotes trumpeting "a shattering conclusion, everything about the marketing of Catfish seems to be saying "This looks like a mundane story about a dude falling for a girl online… but just wait until you see the dark truth behind it!" Which, yeah, is part of the story, but the minute you go in anticipating any kind of twist, your perception of what you watch changes entirely.

I get that this is the classic complaint of a festival-goer, that the only way to see a movie is "fresh" and "untainted" the way I did, and I realize that Catfish is such a good movie it will stand up no matter how much the audience knows (I can't wait to see it again). But I just can't help being anxious that they're going to botch this, making Catfish seem like some weird, Crying Game-style thriller about romance and deception, and turn off all the people who might like it for its sense of humor, its amazing story, and its impressive revelations about living in the Internet age.

So before you watch the trailer below or in high-res at Apple, let me tell you: you don't have to watch it. Go off my word and the word of nearly every other critic, trust that this movie is worth your time, and see Catfish knowing as little as possible. Then go watch this trailer and marvel at how much of the film it manages to give away while purporting that it's holding back the "shocking" final 40 minutes. Catfish is set for release September 17th, and with The Social Network coming out just a few weeks later the two movies may have the power to define what's becoming known as the Facebook generation. You don't have to watch this trailer to know that. Just a suggestion.

First Photos From James Gunn's Super

Walking out of Comic Con, some of the best footage that I got to see belonged to James Gunn's Super. Shown on Friday in Hall H, the day when everyone had somewhere else to be other than the Convention Center (there was not a single soul standing in line), the panel revealed the first look at the amateur superhero film starring Rainn Wilson, Liv Tyler, Nathan Fillion, Ellen Page, and Kevin Bacon. Sadly, it will still be a while until they release the first trailer, but, until then, Gunn has us covered.

The director took to his website and has posted the first two stills from the film. The first shows Wilson decked on in his Crimson Bolt outfit, and the second is from early in film when Wilson meets Tyler while working as a waitress. After the two get married, Tyler becomes addicted to heroin causing Wilson to have a nervous breakdown and assume his superhero identity. There is also a video from the panel, courtesy of ScreenCrave, showing Rainn Wilson and Nathan Fillion beating the crap out of each other. Certainly good use of your time.

Check out the photos and videos below.

This Three Minute Featurette Introduces Us To The World of Tangled

If you’re like me, you want to like everything that Disney has to offer, but have been having a little trouble getting excited for Tangled after the first trailer made it look like a Bratz movie. The one thing that still has me hanging on to hope that this will truly be a wonderful Disney film is the vibrant and lush art style, which is the focus of a new three-minute featurette that recently went online.

In the clip the directors as well as members of the vast art team talk about their inspirations and goals when bringing the world of Rapunzel to life. From watching old Disney classics to just hanging out at Fantasyland at Disneyland in California, the team put forth countless hours of study before really diving in and building this world from the ground up and it paid off.

Scope out the video below (via /film).

UK Poster And Trailer Hit For Mr. Nice

Part nuclear physicist, part school teacher, part spy, ALL dope smuggler, the story of Mr. Nice is somewhat unbelievable but is 100% true. Based on the life story of the nicest man in Britain, Mr. Nice chronicles the life and times of Howard Marks, played by Rhys Ifans, and his exploits as the most notorious hash dealer in the northern hemisphere.

Fittingly, the HeyUGuys Blog across the sea landed this first trailer for the film and not only does it look like a cool bit of zany fun, but Howard Marks himself pops up at the end urging you to check out the movie’s website and join his team. The movie also stars Chloe Sevigny, David Thewlis and Crispin Glover just to name a few.

You may not have much of a chance to see Mr. Nice until it hits DVD at an as yet undetermined time, but for now you can sate yourself with this trailer and poster or just go out and buy the autobiographical book the film is based on if you’re that interested in Marks’ story.

Chace Crawford & 50 Cent Premiere “Twelve”

Stepping out for a swanky evening, Chace Crawford and 50 Cent were spotted at the premiere of their new movie “Twelve” in New York City last night (July 28).

The “Gossip Girl” stud and the “In Da Club” rapper both looked snazzy as they posed for the paparazzi on the red carpet outside the Landmark Sunshine Theatre.

Also in the house were stars like Chace’s CW costars Blake Lively, Jessica Szohr, and Michelle Trachtenberg along with hottie Irina Shayk.

And for everyone who’s excited to see “Twelve,” it won’t be too much longer- it hits theaters August 6th.

The Summer's Two Best Films Get Remixed In The Toy Story 3 Inception Trailer Mash-Up

There are thousands upon millions of trailer mash-ups out there, but when they are done particularly well they deserve notice. Previous examples of this include Reservoir Dogs vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Toy Story 2 vs. Requiem for a Dream and Brokeback Mountain vs. Back To The Future. Now there is another one to place on the list.

Using just the audio from the trailer for Inception and the video from the trailer of Toy Story 3, Screen Rant has created a mash-up that hits all the right spots, from dialogue syncing to matching visuals. Who would have thought that Ken and Barbie would make perfect stand-ins for Cobb and Ariadne? Certainly a more clever mind than my own. All in all, it's a perfect tribute to this summer's best two films.

Check out the video below.

Sucker Punch: Official Trailer and Posters

If you weren’t one of the lucky 6500-or-so fans at Comic Con when “Sucker Punch” was sneak previewed over the weekend, you’ll be glad to know the official trailer has just been released.

The high-energy flick stars Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Emily Browning, Jamie Chung, and Jena Malone and promises to have theatergoers on the edge of their seats.

And it sounds like the ladies had quite a time preparing for and shooting the film, as there were some serious physical demands.

Emily Browning explained, "We probably at the beginning all felt like, oh my God, we don't look like fighters. We're kind of all little girls. We trained our asses off -- we worked really hard. We had Navy SEALs training us. We trained for three months, six hours a day. And we got strong."

Chloe Moretz Reveals A New Violent Side In The Let Me In Trailer

Who’s more dangerous, Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl or as a vampire? Now you don’t have to rely on the Comic Con panel coverage to decide because MTV just posted the very first trailer for Matt Reeves’ remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In called Let Me In.

One thing’s for sure, Moretz is certainly not as fun loving in this one as she was in Kick-Ass. You know what that proves? This girl’s got range. Plus, she’s clearly got chemistry with her co-star Kodi Smit-McPhee, which could have a little something to do with some top-notch direction from Reeves. As a massive fan of Cloverfield I have some pretty high expectations for his next venture and based on this trailer, it seems as though he’ll deliver.

All of the impressive material coming out of Comic-Con is great, but this anticipation is going to kill me. How are we supposed to wait until October 1st for this one?

Teaser Trailer For Nic Cage's Drive Angry 3D Online

The Comic Con teaser for Nic Cage’s Drive Angry 3D is online and it’s every bit as angry as the title suggests. Cage is back in one of his manic states, stalking through the trailer as if he’s just stumbled out a radiation chamber looking for revenge before all of his hair falls out.

The movie casts cage as a felon who has broken out of hell to hunt down and stop the vicious cult who murdered his daughter. The trailer, it’s worth noting, titles the movie as “Drive Angry Shot in 3D”. Clearly they believe, as we do, that audiences are getting hip to what a ripoff movies transferred into the format using a post-conversion process are.

Trailer For Bettany's Priest Appears Online

If you’ve been following along with our Comic Con coverage then you’ve probably heard talk of a movie called Priest starring Paul Bettany as a vampire hunting man of the clothe. Now the movie’s first trailer, which debuted at Con, is online. It takes a very literal approach to the power of Christ.

The trailer features a lot of random shots of guys posing with guns, throwing edged weapons, or riding on motorbikes. In what is surely the most ridiculously idiotic thing ever and yet at the same time weirdly awesome moment, a bunch of crosses fly up into the air and magically transform into throwing stars. The Catholic Church should love this, after all, it makes priests out to be superheroes. Murderous superheroes, but superheroes just the same. Watch:

Extended Footage Is Impressive, But The Goon Is Still Without A Home

Knowing absolutely nothing about Eric Powell’s comic book series The Goon, it’s been pretty easy to let any news of the film adaptation slide right under my radar – until now. The Comic-Con panel was held last night and has been stirring up a ton of positive buzz. Apparently test footage was shown, which was basically just an extended version of the teaser trailer released last week, and the panel attendees went nuts and it’s a good thing because The Goon is missing one major piece of the filmmaking puzzle, financing. It has yet to secure a studio.

However, showing off footage like this, I doubt that will be a problem for much longer. MTV posted that extended clip shown at the panel and it’s packed with brutality, vulgarity and stellar animation thanks to Blur Studios. It features the voice of Clancy Brown as The Goon, a muscled up guy who claims to be the brawn behind a mafia boss. Paul Giamatti voices Franky, The Goon’s buddy and right-hand man. Check out the footage for yourself below and support the cause because this is certainly one I’d like to see in its entirety.

Natalie Portman, Barefoot Bandit, Seinfeld the Movie

Natalie Portman is going for two very different looks in the films Hesher (left) and Black Swan (right), as you can see. For more on details and pics from each film, head to The Playlist for the former and Alison's post on the latter from earlier today.

Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has been hired by 20th Century Fox and producer David Gordon Green to pen a screenplay about real-life criminal Colton Harris-Moore, aka the "Barefoot Bandit." Green is also in negotiations to direct the movie. Hopefully if this is a success they can next make a movie about my ex-step-brother, who was known very shortly, yet nationally as the "Beanie Baby Bandit." You think I'm joking. Of course, there were apparently a lot of crooks given that moniker. Those Beanie Babies were hot!

- Don't be surprised if Let Me In doesn't open in too many theaters, if any, come October. Rumors are circulating that Overture doesn't have the P&A budget to properly sell and release the horror remake and are shopping the film around to other potential distributors. Can't they just rename it "Let the Vampire In"? That on a marquee will sell tickets with no need for any more trailers, posters or other materials related to advertising costs. Of course, so far both the trailer and poster are pretty awesome. Still, now we just have the "P" to worry about.

Our friend AJ Schnack, director of the documentaries Kurt Cobain About a Son and Convention, has teamed up with True/False founder David Wilson to co-direct a new, currently untitled film about Branson, Missouri, which Schnack describes as "a weirdly outsized vacation destination."

In other doc news, Alex Gibney revealed on Twitter that his excellent Eliot Spitzer doc, Client 9 (which we saw a work in progress of), will be released in theaters November 5, though it will hit VOD a month earlier.

Recently someone made a fake trailer for what it could look like if that long-talked-about Arrested Development movie turned out to be an action flick. Well I'm tired of all the Arrested Development movie talk. How about instead a Seinfeld action thriller titled Serenity Now:

New Tron: Legacy Trailer Arrives Online To De-Rez Your Mind

The brand new Tron: Legacy trailer which debuted at San Diego’c Comic Con just moments ago is officially online and ready to de-rezz your mind. Unlike the other teasers it’s more than just a collection of insanely cool images, this time they’re letting us know what’s going on… and it all revolves around Clu. Who is Clu? He’s a program created by Kevin Flynn in the original Tron movie and subsequently absorbed by the evil MCP. He’s back in Tron: Legacy and from the trailer it seems pretty clear that he’s the bad guy behind literally everything.

Check out the brand new trailer for TRON: Legacy below or in HD on Yahoo:

Here's a few extremely key screencaps from the new trailer:

Jeff Bridges de-aged to play Clu... and he doesn't seem friendly.

New de-rezzing process!

Gravity suspended in the computer world?

Clu materializes a plane out of thin air.

Epic New Tron: Legacy Trailer Debuts!

Those who were unable to get to Comic Con to see the exclusive Tron: Legacy footage that director Joseph Kosinski wowed the audience with are in luck: Disney has unveiled a brand new trailer for the masses today! Check out the footage below to see Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and the entire cast get dangerously digital in Tron: Legacy!

As you will see, Walt Disney Pictures has spared no expense in making the sequel to one of its cult hits of yesteryear a mind-blowing contemporary blockbuster. The visuals look absolutely incredible - a digitally age-reversed Jeff Bridges was particularly interesting to see, as was the closing shot of that character (known as Clu) leaping from I-don't-know-what and fashioning himself a Starscream-like future jet fighter. The actors look like they are totally committed to their characters - I think that Garrett Hedlund will surprise audiences by showing that he can be the leading man that his performances in films like Troy and Friday Night Lights have groomed him for. And another thing: Olivia Wilde will rock our world!
