Believe it or not, that's precisely what we're about to get. THR is reporting that Streep and Fey will play a mother and daughter pair in Mommy & Me, a comedy that-- oh, now this is just too good-- will be directed by Stanley Tucci for Sony. Not only did Tucci and Streep make a bang-up team in both The Devil Wears Prada and Julie & Julia, but Tucci is fresh off directing the Broadway revival of Lend Me A Tenor, which won near universal critical acclaim. He may or may not actually have a role in the movie, but his comedic gifts behind the camera may be eve more important at this point.
Sorry to sound like a ridiculously uncritical fangirl right now, but let me put this in superhero terms you can understand: this is like if The Avengers and the Justice League teamed up together to fight Kim Jong-Il and Hitler at the same time. This is the best collaboration imaginable, and something I'll have a hard time not demanding to see, like, this instant. No, Fey's on-screen track record has not been that great since Mean Girls, but Tucci is doubtlessly a better director than Date Night's Shawn Levy and Baby Mama's Michael McCullers. At least, he'd better be. I can't handle another disappointment like that.
